What does the N Z D C do for me?
We
often hear the cry, "what does the New Zealand Darts Council do for me?"
Why be
a member? The answer is simple: "Because you are a darts
player."
Every
sport needs an organisation as a focal point - an organisation all players
and
administrators, Associations and regions can turn to.
The
central organisation represents every single member, whether a champion or a
social club
player. It organises the sport on a national basis for the benefit of
all; it liaisons and arranges
representation in major world events.
It
provides information to anyone who asks. It helps develop standards
for the sport (dress,
behaviour, playing and tournament rules, standard throwing distance etc.).
If you
want to take up the chant ("What does the NZDC do for me?"), first ask
yourself: "What
do I
do for NZDC?"
Do you
communicate your needs? Do you ask for certain services?
Communication is a two-way street. The Directors and the Chief
Executive cannot know what
you
would like to see happen unless you let them know.
Do you
have an idea you think the NZDC could use? Tell us about it. Do
you have an issue you
need
to have resolved? Ask for help. The same issue has probably been
dealt with quite simply
before, and your solution is probably very simple.
There
are endless things you can do to communicate your needs and take advantage
of your
membership benefits.
A
major problem is always lack of communication to local members, the grass
roots of the sport.
In
many cases, important information is not passed on by local officials.
Please display all
newsletters etc. to all members.
All
Associations regularly receive circulars about membership, with requests for
information on
local
promotions etc. normally not many respond. Those who do are very
positive and have
some
good ideas that have been responsible for increasing their membership.
If everyone
responds, the results will be of benefit to all.
The
ball is in your court. Respond to requests from NZDC for your input
and opinions. Make
communication a
two-way street and you may never have to ask again; "What does the NZDC
do for me". |
