ANNOUNCEMENT.
DRUG TESTING AT NZ OPEN.

As you may or may not be aware, there was Drug Testing at the NZ Open i Rot\orua in August 2016. This testing was arranged by the World Darts Federation (WDF) with Drug Free NZ. The only involvement the NZ Darts Council had was to provide the list of tournaments available and is not involved in any way with the results of the Tests.

We have been informed by the WDF that no results of the tests will be published as they are deemed to be confidential between the WDF and the players concerned. It may take a few months before the tests are processed by WADA (the World Anti-Doping Association) due to the Olympics taking place at the same time. New Zealand is one of four countries affiliated to the WDF who were requested to arrange this Testing.

The Board of Directors have been approached by several concerned players and administrators of our sports. They have been told that NZDC have no information as to any results or issues at this time.

Until there is any action taken by the WDF and WADA, it will only be then that NZDC will be informed.

New Zealand Darts Council LogoNews 6th January: Another great game of darts at the Lakeside World Darts Championship with New Zealand's Tina Osborne playing England's Zoe Jones. The first set could have gone to anyone with Tina taking the first leg by going out on 40. Zoe came back in the 2nd leg by breaking with a 180 and finishing on 80 for a 14 dart leg. She also took the 3rd leg but Tina came back and took the 4th. Both players had shots to take the set but Zoe finally took it by going out on 38.

Tina made no race of the next set winning it 3-0 with 22, 17 and 20 dart legs. This seem to spark Zoe up by taking the 3rd and final set 3-0 and the match 2-1. Both players missed many shots at doubles and the match could have gone either way.

New Zealand Darts Council LogoNews 4th January: Another great effort from New Zealand's Craig Caldwell going down in the 5 set thriller against defending World Champion Scott Mitchell. Craig starting off with 108 finish in the first leg and having a shot at the 9 darter in the forth leg. Craig took the set 3-1. Losing the next set 3-0 seem to fire up Craig as he went on to win the next set 3-2 and have another shot at a 9 darter. Craig lost the next set 3-0. Doubles seem to elude Craig in the next set and it seen Scott go on to take the set and the match 3-2. Craig equalled the Lakeside record for most 180's in the first round by hitting 9. Well done Craig Caldwell you done us proud.

Craig Caldwell comes from a set down to take out his first round match at 2016 BDO Lakeside World Professional Championship against Scotland's Alan Soutar 3-1.

Full Match Report from BDO:

Craig Caldwell will meet reigning World Champion Scott Mitchell in the first-round, after the 32-year-old Kiwi produced an excellent display in beating Scotland’s Alan Soutar in Saturday afternoon’s preliminary tie.

Soutar claimed the spoils in a competitive first-set, averaging 95.13, but Caldwell responded impressively, winning the second set without reply.  Caldwell, making his World Championship debut, looked extremely assured, and reeled off the next two sets to secure an excellent 3-1 victory, with an average in excess of 91.
